Sporting Events Abroad – The Importance Of Travel Insurance

With a host of major sporting events taking place all over the world in the coming weeks, there are huge numbers of British sports fans expected to travel overseas to watch the action unfold live. Whether it’s to watch the Champions League Final in Rome, the British and Irish Lions in South Africa or the boxing in Las Vegas, sports fans continue to follow their favourite athletes and sports teams across the globe.

While this in itself is not a problem, one issue that has been identified is the number of sports fans that are travelling without travel insurance. One in five Brits fail to take out any form of travel insurance when travelling abroad. With this number increasing significantly with last-minute planning and short stays, the number of supporters that potentially put their trip and their health at risk is quite staggering.

There are a number of issues that may arise on a trip like this. It is important to protect against these issues which may include lost tickets, cancelled or delayed flights, personal accidents and theft by taking out sufficient travel insurance.

In the event of a medical emergency, a travel insurance policy would cover the costs of treatment. Without this cover, the costs to receive medical attention can spiral out of control.

When planning a trip overseas to support your favourite athlete or team, remember to ensure that you have sufficient travel insurance to cover any possible incidents or issues. Without this cover you are taking a huge gamble, a gamble that may end up costing you several thousand pounds.
